At CEBIT 2018 Vodafone will be presenting its Narrow Band IoT Development Kit, which provides the basis for integrating business processes. Together with the automotive supplier Continental, Vodafone has developed a turnkey IoT concept for fleet managers enabling them to monitor the status of their vehicles around the clock. The IoT has now found its way into inaccessible areas. With the aid of Waterbox 4.0 energy utilities can track the status of piping systems in basements and ducts. The system detects malfunctions and raises the alarm via text message or e-mail. (open-air site, Pavilions P32 and P33).
Two examples testify to IBM's IoT expertise. Firstly, KONE – a leading manufacturer of elevators and escalators – uses IBM's Watson IoT system for remote monitoring and preventive maintenance. Secondly, IBM has created a digital twin for the Port of Rotterdam. To facilitate the fully automated operation of Europe's largest port it was necessary to digitally map the entire 42-km site, including the complete infrastructure with all the relevant processes and environmental data. At CEBIT 2018 IBM will report on how this exciting project is progressing (open-air site, Pavilions P34 and P35).
Software AG will present various IoT showcases at this year's CEBIT. The focus will be on Smart Energy (smart grids), Smart City (waste disposal and lighting management) and Smart Manufacturing (networking of industrial plant). The IoT platform Cumulocity IoT plays a central role. A further highlight is the Industry 4.0 easy workshop (Monday through Friday, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.), where visitors can create their own Internet with the aid of small devices (Hall 17, C44).
A very visible attraction at CEBIT is the giant SAP Ferris wheel. The aim is to visualize how IoT concepts embrace all aspects of business operation and customer experience – from planning and plant maintenance to customer satisfaction monitoring. With the aid of a special VR presentation SAP will give insight into an ultramodern, fully automated logistics network. The company has teamed up with Cargo Sous Terrain to develop a network of underground tunnels in Switzerland, due to be completed in 2030. IoT technology and machine learning processes will ensure the smooth operation of this network (open-air site, Pavilion P44).
At CEBIT as Europe's Business Festival for Innovation and Digitization, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) will demonstrate how smart systems can create added value. Examples include self-repairing machinery and connected devices that can detect hacker attacks. "In future every machine, every process and every building will be equipped with intelligence," predicts Heiko Meyer, Managing Director of HPE Germany. Together with its external partners HPE will be presenting technology, solutions and services that drive the process of digital transformation forward (Hall 12, D47).
At CEBIT 2018, Huawei will demonstrate to visitors how it and its clients and partners are combining new technologies in order to create a "Symphony of Digital Transformation". Key elements in this process are Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics and the Internet of Things (Hall 13, C01).
The evaluation of large quantities of data from various IoT sources is opening up great opportunities in the healthcare sector. At this year's CEBIT the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT) is presenting its smart TeLiFIT telemedicine platform, which automatically processes and analyzes measurement data acquired by mobile devices. In addition, the Fraunhofer researchers will showcase an Industrial Data Space, which allows companies to create a secure trust network for their data (Hall 27, E78).
A highlight in the conference program is the CEBIT IoT Summit featuring top speakers from Siemens, T-Systems, Vodafone and Swisscom. In addition, the General Manager of IBM Watson IoT, Kareem Yusuf, will discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on the Internet of Things (from 10:30 a.m., Hall 12, Center Stage). On 12 June the security specialist Sebastian Schreiber will describe how hacker attacks occur in the IoT and analyze the risks associated with the widespread deployment of web-enabled devices (5:30 p.m., Hall 12, Expert Stage).
