VW-Hackathon: the winner is...

No more will your kids whine from the backseat, "Daddy, are we there yet?" Road Genius from Karlsruhe stepped up to the plate at the VW codeFEST8 with a quiz app that provides hours of entertainment.

19 Mar. 2015

They won over the jury, led by Volkswagen CIO Martin Hofmann, to take home the top prize at the mega-hackathon. The Road Genius app asks unique questions about the region and greater area – the location is determined using the vehicle’s positioning data. The driver can concentrate on traffic while the kids are kept entertained – and learn a bit about their surroundings, to boot. The team plans to reinvest the €10,000 prize money into their app for further development.

Several hundred students took part in codeFEST8 over the weekend, coding around the clock. In just 28 hours, they developed software around the theme of transportation in the future. The preliminary round of this unique competition for the automotive industry was held simultaneously at eight universities around Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The two best teams from each university qualified for the exciting final at CeBIT.
