Bremen-based IT security specialist Governikus is at CeBIT 2017 in Hannover to spread the word about the latest innovations from the "AusweisApp2", which has been developed for the German Federal Ministry of the Interior.

The latest identity card in Germany offers a whole host of state-of-the-art functions, but few people are putting them to good use. The first thing you need to make the most of the functions is a special card reader, which can cost anything from as little as 20 euros up. The second and last thing you need is an eID client, which is a secure tool for carrying out the ID check required by the online service provider. One such eID client is AusweisApp, which has been developed by the IT security specialists at Governikus. At CeBIT 2017, Governikus is telling visitors all about the latest development in AusweisApp2, which it has developed for the German Federal Ministry of the Interior.

Available from the Google Play store since November 2016 as a productive beta version, AusweisApp2 features an optimized user interface that allows users to take advantage of the online identity function on an Android smartphone or tablet via an NFC interface and/or with a separate Bluetooth card reader. What’s more, Governikus now also offers a software development kit (SDK) for AusweisApp2 that makes it easier to integrate the functionalities for using the online identity check function into other apps and uses. Finally, there are a number of useful video tutorials also being launched at CeBIT that are designed to offer future AusweisApp2 users guidance and support.
