Standardised multi-functional PC enables mobile broadband communication and supports police officers on patrol
Brandenburg police have developed a uniform and secure communication platform in cooperation with industry. This may be used in different types of radio patrol vehicles. The communication platform features various software components, special hardware and is integrated into the IT infrastructure of the police. The multi-functional PC, ready for series production, has been fitted with proprietary police software applications and is connected with the police operations control system.
The components of the multi-functional PC:
Operations management Operations and pertaining information are transmitted from the control centre to the radio patrol car with this component.
Video The network cameras were developed specifically for the standardised fitting into vehicles. They are able to record, document and play back events, stops and checks in the radio patrol vehicle. The control centre is able to access the camera feed in real time.
Navigation The automatic routing guarantees that the deployment location can be reached fast and facilitates the orientation, especially in case of operations in neighbouring districts.
Operational vehicle localisation All radio patrol cars of the watch and patrol shifts are fitted with vehicle-bound GPS boxes and are visualised with their respective locations within the ELBOS operations control system at the control room of the police headquarters as well as on the ELBOS work stations at the various police stations.
Digital radio control There is a user interface integrated into the multi-functional PC through which the radios in use may be operated.
The components are designed for the heightened demands of police operations (temperature and shock resistant) and are available long-term and are maintenance friendly.
The first interactive radio patrol vehicles of the transporter van category have proven their worth in operations. In 2015, further radio patrol cars and two helicopters of the police helicopter squad were retrofitted with interactive components. In the future, any newly to be acquired radio patrol vehicles of the Brandenburg police force will be fitted with the interactive components by the automobile manufacturers as a standard feature. This communication platform was devleoped together with the company T-Systems International GmbH.
