The know-how of Semantic Machines will flow into the further development of Cortana and other services. This fits perfectly with the company strategy, because Microsoft is currently working hard to expand its expertise in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Microsoft has announced the acquisition of the Californian company, Semantic Machines , a pioneer in the field of speech recognition and processing with machine learning (Conversational AI) in a blog post . The Group hopes to be able to expand its AI systems. For example, Cortana, which is integrated into the Windows desktop, is supposed to be able to understand whole sentences and follow a conversation in addition to reacting to keywords, provide the current weather report or search for terms on the Internet.

Microsoft is currently expanding the field of AI research and related applications. For developers, the software giant offers the cognitive services that allow them to extend their applications with speech recognition. Microsoft provides them with free bots, especially for websites with the Azure Bot Service . Major competitor, Google, presented the AI, Google Duplex , a few weeks ago which is able to independently make a hairdresser appointment or reserve a table at a restaurant.
