The first budding e-commerce merchants will begin training in August 2018. According to e-commerce association bevh , the new profession is not only of interest to wholesalers and retailers, but also to providers of online games, tour operators, ticketing service providers, and the manufacturing industry. Companies that want to offer vocational training in this new field can get in touch with the competent chambers of commerce and industry and post information about the planned number of open training positions on the www.ecommerce-ausbilden.de website. This should help the chambers and the respective district governments determine the best locations for the vocational schools.

“E-commerce merchant” is the first new commercial profession to be added in more than ten years. The older occupations requiring vocational training for IT systems merchants and IT sales specialists have less to do with e-commerce than with the use of IT systems. Although currently trending occupations such as “social media manager” or “category manager” are rather similar to the new profession, the relevant training programs are not yet regulated uniformly.
