The Vienna-based start-up company, Digital Privacy , offers – only in Austria for now – smartphone users the option of having a second, full-fledged phone number on their cell phone without the need for an additional SIM card. In a press release , the developers mention that the "pio" service, as it is known, can be used to better separate private and professional life, or to set up a separate phone number specifically for business on online market platforms, online registrations or partner searches.
Using an app, which is available for both Android and iOS, the user can select a pio number and configure the related functions. For now, pio phone numbers offer basic functions such as voice telephony and SMS, a voice mailbox, a separate address book, and the option of blocking selected contacts. Users can activate, deactivate or temporarily mute their pio number via the app. The telephone calls do not use VoIP, but instead actual voice telephony. The service is available from 2.99 EUR per month. According to the Digital Privacy developers, it should be possible to have several pio numbers simultaneously on your cell phone before the year is out.
