Commuting in Germany has never been so widespread, and the distances traveled are increasing continuously. At the same time, commuters' demands are growing, with train passengers in particular looking to make good use of their time and expecting comfort, individuality, safety and security. The "Ideenzug" is a response to this trend and has now made its first public appearance at the Arena Nürnberger Versicherung arena in Nuremberg. It is still only a small-scale replica of a double-decker train car that will link visionary interior design concepts and innovative digital services and test them with customers. However, in the longer term the "Ideenzug" is set to make passengers' everyday lives easier and ensure a feel-good atmosphere on board as a train of the future.
The joint project by Südostbayernbahn, d.lab and DB Regio uses hardware from AXIS Communications for the innovative camera concept with video analysis on the "Ideenzug", while the software is provided by Axis partner Herta Security. In the future, cameras mounted at the train entrances will scan the faces of passengers boarding and, if required, analyze them. Inside the cars, the cameras can also analyze how full all the areas of the train are. As well as a wide variety of state-of-the-art seating facilities, there is a particular demand for digital information portals and entertainment options. That's why numerous screens have been installed on the "Ideenzug" that are networked with a complex IT infrastructure including loudspeakers and cameras. The IT experts have even created their own concepts for the floors and interior lighting.
