The measurement of brain activity in the real world in which we carry out activities of daily life is an attractive topic. Electroencephalography (EEG) can be used to measure brain activity in the real world. However, conventional EEG devices can be used only in laboratories or hospitals, since they need conductive paste for EEG recording. We have developed a wearable EEG system that enables measurement of EEG in electrically noisy environments by using a high quality active-electrode without the conductive paste. This system consists of a portable EEG device attached to a custom-designed headgear, and extremely high input impedance active electrodes with a flexible chip for recording through hair. An important feature of this flexible chip is that the contact point with the skin of head can move both vertically and horizontally. The material used in the flexible chip is silver. We utilized Bluetooth for the wireless connection of the device. Our wearable EEG system will be useful in many applications such as in healthcare, neuro-marketing, etc.
