Free and Open Source Software

The Open Source phenomenon is what embodies the title theme "Connected Worlds" of CeBIT 2010. The principle of free, open source development as a teamwork of volunteer contributors to worldwide projects has become a success model.

Free and open source software is being applied on all levels - whether hidden as "embedded" Linux in technologies of all kinds, as network management on enterprise servers, or as the platform for Google Android mobile devices.

Open source applications have been playing an ever increasing role in enterprise IT, mostly in server operating systems, Web and mail servers, databases and middleware. Almost all IT departments now use open source technologies in one form or another.

CeBIT 2010 is continuing to follow the open source trend by highlighting "free and open software" for the second year in a row. After its great success in 2009, "CeBIT Open Source" is getting an encore in Hall 2 with an even larger presence of the newest and most interesting free software applications.

Open Source Forum

The "call for papers" is now officially open. We're looking for practitioners who can report on their experiences using free software in business and government.

Project Lounge - Call for Projects is closed
Deutsche Messe together with the Linux New Media publishing company and the Linux Foundation, the non-profit organization behind the free platform, put out a "Call for Projects." You'll find more information about the chosen Projects at the website of Linux Magazin.

Main Sponsor of the Open Source Project Lounge

Logo Sponsor Open Source Mozilla Foundation

The Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit organization that sponsors the Mozilla project and devotes its resources to promoting openness, innovation and opportunity on the Internet. It does this by supporting the community of Mozilla contributors and by assisting others who are building technologies that benefit users around the world. Following this central idea, Mozilla's sponsorship of the Project Lounge enables non-commercial Open Source Projects to present their exciting and innovative work to a broad audience at CeBIT 2010.
