How cognitive is changing the world

Talking robots, self-driving cars or luminous evening dresses – cognitive technologies are changing our world. At the IBM stand at CeBIT, visitors can experience how Watson is galvanizing artificial intelligence in the cognitive world and how the Cloud holds everything together.

IBM | Hall 2 | Stand A10

We stand in front of the door to hall 2 at the Hannover exhibition grounds full of curiosity and expectation. The start of every new year marks the time for CeBIT.

The door opens a fraction and gives the first glimpse of the IBM stand: here the IT world of tomorrow awaits us, one in which cognitive computing sets the agenda.

In front of us stands a white Nao robot with a blue cap and green eyes. It is about half a meter tall and it greets us with:

"Welcome to IBM’s CeBIT stand!"

The robot can talk, understand and respond thanks to the artificial intelligence of Watson, the IBM cognitive computer system. The Nao robot is a colleague of the one developed specifically for the Hilton hotel chain. That one is called Connie and welcomes guests to the Hilton in McLean, Virginia.

The concierge has tips for their stay and knows the score when it comes to the country and the people. To achieve this, the robot accesses a rich trove of data, such as for example the knowledge of the WayBlazer travel platform which also uses Watson technology. Furthermore, Connie learns with every question asked and expands its store of knowledge all by itself.

Connie’s colleague at the IBM stand represents the company’s motto for this CeBIT, which the Nao robot can of course repeat by heart: "Outthink limits – build a cognitive business." From its location, we have a good view of other applications containing Watson intelligence: cars, machines, security systems, work places, weather forecasting and even an evening dress – and it’s all in the Cloud.

"Looking forward to seeing you again", says the robot and waves goodbye. If you want to experience this in person or would like to know more about the limitless world of IBM Watson, make an appointment here .

If you have any problems with the view then go to.
