More than 900,000 Deutsche Telekom customers suffered disruptions to their Internet and telephone services on November 27 and 28, 2016. The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has identified a global attack on selected remote management ports of DSL routers as the cause.
The intention of the (as yet unnamed) perpetrators was to contaminate the devices with malware. According to the BSI, the network of the Federal Government was also attacked, but it suffered no damage due to the fact that it was adequately protected.
Cyber security is also a central theme of the CeBIT 2017 : The increasing intercommunication enabled by the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0 and smart devices such as wearables, offers attackers vast opportunities for spying out information, sabotaging business and administrative processes, or enriching themselves in other ways. In Hall 6 there are two lecture forums - the CeBIT Security Plaza and the Business Security Stage - which you are welcome to attend if you would like more information on current security issues. Both forums offer an extensive lecture program including an exhibition area on all five CeBIT days.
