Team Building at HACKVENTION Creative Lab

Experts for VR, AR, mixed reality, and 360° video production meet at the pre-event for HACKVENTION 2017.

VR and AR innovations such as Microsoft's "Hololens" were the stars of the first HACKVENTION from December 2–4, 2016. Experts for virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, and 360° video production shared and exchanged their knowledge at the Hanover Trade Exhibition. Visionary Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari and Steve Jobs’ first employer, also participated in the event via Skype.

A follow-up is planned for the summer of 2017. However, the community will first take a look into the future at the "HACKVENTION Creative Lab" at CeBIT. The aim of the pre-event is to form teams from hardware manufacturers, companies (business and industry), as well as “hackers” – designers, software developers, storytellers, and other creative individuals – who develop functional applications on the basis of VR.

The Creative Lab will take place on March 22 and 23, 2017 in CeBIT Hall 17 . "The first day will be a conference for the community," explains Bastian Herrlich, Project Manager Digital Mobile at Deutsche Messe AG. The conference is designed to provide participants with insight into the international virtual reality and hacker scene. "To do this we will be bringing the largest VR meet-ups and hackathon organizers onto one stage," promises Herrlich. Well-known universities that conduct research on these topics will also be asked onto the stage. Technology and platform workshops from hardware and software manufacturers offer additional incentives for technically versed VR developers.

On the second day manufacturers, hackers, and companies will meet for the actual Creative Lab in order to prepare topics together and form initial teams. "With the Creative Lab, hackers are able to help share the ideas of the companies, and the companies in turn have the opportunity to integrate themselves better into the hacker community," says Bastian Herrlich. Together the best ideas are to be implemented at HACKVENTION in summer. "With the exhibition space, the conference, and the joint conception of topics and VR applications, we offer the perfect ecosystem and the necessary infrastructure in order to let ideas become virtual reality to everyone interested in technology," confirms the project manager.
