This results from the recently published SBB Strategy 2020 . The strategy paper identifies, among other things, innovations such as digital train stations, intelligent freight cars and – already in the first quarter of this year – a talking schedule. This feature is realized by using the SBB Mobile app, which has now been downloaded by more than three million passengers; it will soon also offer voice control and a voice robot for further information.

IoT sensors in the freight cars are in future expected to measure temperature, vibration and the position of the car, allowing customers to check on the location and status of their transported goods at any time. SBB is also promoting the automation of the scheduling process, railway operation and the train control system and is also examining the possibility of remote-controlled trains. In doing so, SBB aims to increase the capacity of the rail network in Switzerland by up to 30%.
