HSM GmbH has developed the Powerline HDS 230 hard driver destroyer in direct response to the Federal Office for Data Security’s recommendation for more professional disposal of used hard drives. The impressive device is on show at CeBIT 2016 in Hannover.
It’s common knowledge that disposing of data storage devices that held sensitive and confidential information calls for the utmost care. After all, this kind of data can severely compromise a business. But what exactly should you do with your obsolete physical storage media? Hard disks can be wiped using special software or demagnetized by degaussing. But is this really enough? The course of action recommended by the Federal Office for Data Security is dismantle and destroy! To save administrators from having to rip hard disks to shreds using hammers, chisels, grinders and cutting torches, HSM GmbH based near Lake Constance has come up with a rather impressive hard disk destroyer called the HSM Powerline HDS 230, which it’s showcasing at CeBIT 2016.
The HSM Powerline HDS 230 crushes and mills hard disks using heavy-duty steel cutting shafts – similar to the way paper is shredded. The advantages of a hard disk destroyer like this are quite clear! Not only is the process 100% effective, but the results are immediately visible and clear-cut. Plus it only takes seconds to shred data storage this way, which means big time savings, especially when it comes to destroying in bulk. Shredding also means any data on the hard disks is guaranteed gone for good and can never be fully retrieved.
