Future-focused solutions on the cards

Western Digital is taking on the challenge of increasing data volumes for "smart surveillance" and "connected car" applications, and enhancing its solutions portfolio with the latest generation of SanDisk cards for industrial and automotive applications.

A year on from world-leading data storage technology supplier Western Digital's takeover of SanDisk, the Flash storage specialist has now introduced its highest-performing memory cards yet, specifically suited to industrial and automotive applications. The SanDisk Industrial, Industrial Extended Temperature and Automotive storage solutions are designed to deliver exceptional endurance and reliability even in particularly harsh environments, representing the cutting edge in both performance and storage capacity.

All the cards support sequential read speeds of up to 80 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 50 MB/s. The versions in the classic SD form factor offer storage capacity up to 64 GB, while the SanDisk Industrial, also available in the microSD form factor, delivers an impressive 128 GB. All the new cards also offer additional smart features for OEMs. For instance, the enhanced Health Status Monitor for expanded reporting capabilities allows manufacturers to monitor use of a card remotely and identify when it needs to be updated or replaced. Meanwhile, an automatic "Read Refresh" feature optimizes the card for compliance with strict OEM data retention specifications. Other intelligent features include OEM customization options, enhanced protection against power outages, and a "host lock" function to ensure security if the card is removed.
