Over 50 billion devices worldwide will be networked by 2020. By then more than half of all new business processes are expected to involve the Internet of Things (IoT). The technology drivers of this megatrend are prominently represented at CeBIT.
In the Communication & Networks area, visitors can see the latest solutions for connectivity, phone services, video conferences and unified communications, while right next door IoT SOLUTIONS focuses on real-world applications in various sectors with a stimulating mix of exhibition, conference and B2B platform.
The opportunities that the Internet of Things creates in the international market are impressively displayed at in the IoT/M2M Pavilion (Hall 13). The partner is the M2M Alliance , Europe’s biggest association in the M2M sector with 85 members from 14 countries. Corporations such as Telefónica and Matrix Electronica in Spain or Teleena in the Netherlands are exhibiting pioneering IoT technology and demo applications at CeBIT. Further application scenarios come from TomTom BRIDGE . This telematics provider has developed a platform that enables the implementation of custom networked business applications for any vehicle pool. In the periphery of the pavilion, satnav, fleet management and tracking & tracing are the core topics of the Telematics & Automotive exhibition area. For example, the Lithuanian telematics company Teltonika (Hall 13, Stand B30) is presenting an extremely compact fleet manager.
The Italian company Eurotech (Hall 13, Stand D78) and the OSGi Alliance are jointly demonstrating ways to manage complex traffic systems with Java-based portable software modules, using a Lego railway as a demo platform. The OSGi alliance is a collaborative initiative of IBM, Oracle, Deutsche Telekom and Eurotech, among others, to specify a hardware-independent modular software platform. Eurotech is also bringing a compact, Java-programmable Smart City application with integrated air sensors, Geiger counter and a weather station to Hannover. In a presentation on the second the second day of the trade show (Hall 13, Stand E48; 15 March, 2:20 p.m.) in the Communications & IoT SOLUTIONS Forum , Eurotech CEO Roberto Siagri describes how the IoT fosters business innovations. For CeBIT visitors who want to learn more about IoT business ideas, the IoT SOLUTIONS Forum on all days of the trade show offers interesting discussions with prominent speakers. The main topics are Mobility & Transport, Smart Manufacturing and the Digital Transformation. At the CeBIT IoT Summit on 15–17 March, the focus is on IoT & Business Paradigm Shifts, IoT Opportunities & Challenges, IoT Business Intelligence and Data Visualization, and IoT Futures. Admission to the Communications & IoT SOLUTIONS Forum and the IoT Summit is free for all visiting professionals.
In the IoT SOLUTIONS Area (Hall 13, Stand E77) the Eclipse Foundation, OSGi Alliance and BitReactive are demonstrating the important role of open source, Java and OSGi in the Internet of Things, while other partners are exhibiting integrated vertical solutions for Analytics and Predictive Maintenance (Hitachi High-Tech Europe), the integration of industrial PLCs, Smart Energy (Misurio Ltd.), Managed PDU (Om7Sense), networked boilers and heating systems (ELCO), Facility Management / Retail (FSI), counting visitor streams, transportation (RedHat), automatic license plate recognition and smart cities / environmental technology.
Lufthansa Industry Solutions is a Premium Partner for the Forum. Together with startup entrepreneurs, this large company founded the Future Mobility committee of the German Startups Association (BVDS). The committee serves as a platform for sharing expert know-how on networked traffic, public transport, and car IT / connected cars. On 15 March (12:30 p.m.), Sebastian Blumenthal, Director Mobility & Transport at Lufthansa Industry Solutions, discusses the trending topic of “Startups and Industry – Cooperative Efforts and Perspectives in Mobility Management”.
Industry 4.0, mobility and the Internet of Things require closely meshed networks that transmit data from sensors to the cloud. devolo Business Solutions (Hall 13, Stand D63) makes its debut at CeBIT with six new Wi-Fi access point options. The latest member of the Business Powerline series, the dLAN pro 1200+ PoE, is being unveiled in Hannover. This adapter sends data at up to 1,200 Mbps over the power line. At CeBIT devolo is also tipping the veil on their upcoming products for the Internet of Things Other CeBIT exhibitors with pioneering connectivity solutions include US car maker Tesla Motors (Hall 13, Stand D85), Matrix Electronica (Hall 13, Stand E83) and Recore Systems (Hall 13, Stand D70).
Particularly for small and medium-size enterprises, cloud services are an effective way to offload routine tasks from IT teams, cut costs and stay agile. Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (Hall 13, Stand D28) is showing innovative on-demand solutions at CeBIT in cooperation with sales and application partners. One of their innovations is a cloud-based platform for unified communications and collaboration (UC&C).
The Auerswald (Hall 13, Stand C39) presence focuses on the unified conversion of telecommunication networks to IP (All-IP). They are showing their hybrid COMpact 4000/5000 and COMmander 6000 ITC systems, including the COMfortel-IP phone, and demonstrating their deployment in IP networks.
AVM (Hall 13, Stand C48) is exhibiting its new FRITZ!Box models at CeBIT. New units with support for super vectoring 35b and bonding, as well as super vectoring 35b and G.fast, are available for the speed jump to VDSL. The upcoming FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable with 32 x 8 DOCSIS cable bundling and especially high-performance WLAN for wireless connection to mobile devices pulls more speed out of the cable jack. The FRITZ!Box 7580 high-end VDSL router with multi-user MIMO technology is also being unveiled at CeBIT.
At LANCOM Systems (Hall 13, Stand C28) the focus is on solutions for major provider network conversion to all-IP, high performance WLAN access points, integration of electronic displays into the WLAN infrastructure, and secure VPN site networking. The LANCOM IAP-4G mobile telecommunication router for M2M communication with LTE mobile telecom modules is premiering at CeBIT.
The Smart Home market is gaining traction. Cloud-based solutions and IP capability are increasingly in demand among business users. At the Smart Home seminar “ Networked Life 2020 ” organized by Bitkom on the stage in Hall 13 (15 March, 10 a.m.), market leaders and startups discuss the impact of this development on future business models.
