Internet advertisers and operators of online sales platforms have access to a wealth of detailed information for analyzing customer profiles and behavior. This can leave bricks-and-mortar businesses and users of digital signage solutions at a distinct disadvantage. The SHORE anonymous face analysis software developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) may help close this gap in future by analyzing the age, sex and facial expressions of individuals and groups in real time.

At this year’s CeBIT in Hannover, a fully integrated solution is on show for the first time, featuring a compact, intelligent sensor that works without transferring image data or requiring analysis on a dedicated computer. Not only does this solution ensure full privacy protection (privacy by design) – it also reduces the infrastructure outlay required, as only metadata is transferred and no additional processing units are needed.
