According to a study by the BITKOM industry association, the market for networked IT, telecommunications and consumer electronics in Germany grew to €16 billion in 2011 – a 28-percent increase over 2010. Michael Schidlack, BITKOM expert for home networking, sees the end of an island existence for televisions, washing machines and lighting approaching: “Interest in smart home solutions is rising.”
