Richard Marko began his career at ESET already during his college studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, Technical University in Košice, Slovakia - he graduated in 1996 with Master of Science with Distinction and his dissertation was awarded the Rector's Award.
He is one of the co-authors of the ESET antivirus system and its scanning engine that was for the first time released in 1995; and in 1998 as Chief Software Architect he co-authored ESET NOD32 technology for the next generation of products, as well as oversaw the deployment of the new flagship product - ESET Smart Security in 2007. Between 2008 and 2010 he was Chief Technology Officer of the company.
He co-programmed ESET's Advadnced Heuristics which in 2002 brought a technological breakthrough in malware detection. Thanks to this technology, ESET is one of the leaders in cyber-security.
