Unfortunately, while this insight is backed by numerous studies, it has still yet to take firm root in corporate Germany, where the percentage of women in ICT is well below international standards. However, the pressure for change is mounting, fuelled by the current debate on the introduction of a women's quota system.
Germany’s ICT sector has set itself some ambitious targets and is closely scrutinizing a number of programs and HR strategies. A recent study by BITKOM (the German Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media) indicates that the sector aims to increase the number of women in technical positions by 70 percent. At the Fem@le Leadership Summit, women in senior positions at various international companies will explore ways of achieving gender equity in the workforce. The Summit will focus primarily on developments in Germany, but will draw extensively on experience and comparative analysis from other countries. Held on International Women’s Day 2012, the Fem@le Leadership Summit will identify strategies and tools for boosting the number of women in technical and leadership positions in the ICT sector.
