What personal maxim or bit of wisdom do you live by?
My background is in open source. I love open source because there's no better way to build integrity than through transparency. Integrity and trust are incredibly important to me, and I bring those elements to everything I do.
iPhone or BlackBerry?
In 2007, I got an iPod and then eventually transitioned from the BlackBerry to the iPhone in 2008. Now it's iPhone all day long.
What do you wish you had more time for?
My family. I travel about 100,000 miles a year, and sometimes I'm away from my wife and children for a few weeks at a time.
For you, a day can be called a success when...?
When I've gotten through all my email. A clean email inbox makes me feel like I've addressed everything I needed to.
Are you ever offline?
Unless I am sleeping, I am always online and accessible.
What historical figure would you have liked to get to know, and why?
Winston Churchill. He was one of the most interesting and incredibly passionate people - almost to a fault. He was very strong in his convictions, and my favorite quote from him is, "Never, never, never, never, give up."
Your biggest triumph?
As the co-founder of SugarCRM, 2011 was our best year yet. We hit the 200 employee mark, had our first acquisition, and went cash flow positive. There has been no bigger year in my career, and I'm very proud of what we have achieved.
What do others say about you?
Others say that I am trustworthy, have high integrity, and am driven.
Name three things you never leave the house without:
My mobile phone, a watch and a sense of adventure. Life is an adventure and you've got one shot to make the most of it.
What was the last book you read?
Vimana, a science fiction book by. I've just completed reading The Game of Thrones series written by George R. R. Martin, and it's a mini-series now. I read non-stpo sci-fi I have 2-4 books going at once. I'm reading good to great right now. I had a goal at one time to read every star wars novel. There are about 140 star wars books, and I've read about 123 of them. I moved to the Kindle 2 years ago today and I've read 155 books. I read about 75 books a year and finish more than a book a week.
